Hālau Nā Mamo O Ka Liko Maile O Kohala
"Cultivating and transmitting ancestral Hawaiian knowledge through the traditional art form known as the hula"
NO KĀKOU
Kumu Hula Kapua Francisco first started hula as a young boy with Keali‘ika‘apunihonua Ke‘ena A‘o Hula under the direction of Kumu Hula Leimomi Ho. He then moved on and joined Hālau Nā Mamo O Pu‘uanahulu under the direction of Kumu Hula William Kahakuleilehua Haunu‘u Sonny Ching where he studied and trained in hula for 19 years and completed the traditional ‘uniki to become a Kumu Hula in October 2011.
Hālau Nā Mamo O Ka Liko Maile O Kohala was founded in January 2012 and is a school dedicated to preserving and ensuring the continuance of the Hawaiian culture through hula. Its main purpose is to perpetuate, cultivate, and transmit ancestral Hawaiian knowledge through the traditional art form known as the hula and other traditional practices. Kumu Hula Kapua Francisco provides opportunities for students of all ages to develop a strong identity and connection to our homeland and host culture, as well as, to foster a desire to think, act, and live a life with Hawaiian values and purpose.
Our hālau name was carefully selected with the blessing of Kumu Hula Sonny Ching to honor and continue the pilina between Kumu Hula Kapua Francisco's ʻohana/moʻokūʻauhau from Kohala, Hawaiʻi, Kumu Hula Sonny Ching and Hālau Nā Mamo O Puʻuanahulu and the seven (7) lālā Kumu Hula of Papa Maile (Kumu Hula Gary Casupang, Kumu Hula Tehani Gonzado, Kumu Hula Lōpaka Igarta-De Vera, Kumu Hula Lahela Igarta, Kumu Hula Gina Jingao, and Kumu Hula Noah Ryan). The hālau design/logo is a traditional Hawaiian design that represents Kumu Hula Kapua Francisco's moʻokūauhau and connection to Kohala, Hawaiʻi.
We welcome all who have the desire to learn hula at any level of dance as long as you are dedicated and committed to learning and mastering what is taught. Our style of dance is maintained from the teachings of Kumu Hula Kapua Francisco's Kumu Hula. We are located and practice on the Big Island in Keaʻau, Hawaiʻi. Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information.
